Day Trip: Maras & Moray

We will pick you up at your hotel in the morning and travel to the village of Maras, passing picturesque landscapes and small Andean village on our way. There, our tour starts with the visit of the colonial church. From here, we will then go to the archaeological complex of Moray where huge deep circular agricultural terraces were built by the Incas, serving as an “agricultural greenhouse”. The Incas used the terraces as an agricultural laboratory to determine the optimum conditions for each category in differing altitudes. Each terrace has its own micro-climate. You will have the chance to discover one the Incas’ invention and enjoy the Green landscapes. On our way back, we will finally visit the ancient salt mines near the village of Maras, where salty springs emerge. The Incas built the terraces to capture the flows. It was a salt producing center during the colonial era. The salt evaporation ponds are still intact and you will be able to observe how the workers of the local communities recovered from these mines.
